What does the general public think about how much money companies spend on DEI? Do they think it is money well spent or a waste of resource? That's what we asked members of the British public recently in London. Here is what they had to say.
Simon, a shoemaker from London said “Definitely, just like travel broadens the mind, you get different cultures together and it just broadens everyone's mind and makes people less narrow minded.”
Val, a Company Director, said “Absolutely. But Is it just a stamp to say that they're doing it? Again, actions speak louder than words. Making sure they're getting a panel is a cross section of their organisation.
But I think with D&I, we have to actually understand, there are experts, there are consultancies, there are agents. Invest that money to people that know. So it's worth actually exploring it more. But yes, absolutely.”
Tom, from the tech industry said “I think it depends on how it's done. I think it's easy to waste money if it's not done thoughtfully but certainly targeted well, I think it's a good thing to be doing.”
Panilla from the IT industry was adamant “Oh yes. All research show that so diverse teams create better results basically.
Amy agreed, saying “Yes, I think it is money worth spending because you are investing in your people and that ultimately is what drives your business forward. If you don't invest in your people, they're just going to look elsewhere, I think to feel valued.
Louise, who works in property management, shared “Yes, definitely. When you start including people and you have diversity within the business, you will keep your staff for longer because we spend too much money on employing these individuals, but we don't spend enough money on investing in them.
Lisa, who works in the insurance sector said “Yes, definitely. You need, you need a range of employees to make a good team, right? You need a bit of everything. And if you're making it prohibitive for young mothers to come back to work, then that isn't a fair representation of what it could be and you're missing out on talent for sure.”
