Learning to celebrate difference

Home   /   Case studies   /   National sport governing body

A national sport governing body approached FAIRER Consulting with the goal to eliminate discrimination and create a game that truly is for all.

Our client was keen to progress its DEI ambition to ensure that all of its 1,000 colleagues clearly understand – and are equipped to make – the contribution that is required of each of them, towards organisational inclusivity.

90%+ Participants recommended our programme
90%+ Participants found our materials engaging
80%+ Participants found our content relevant

The challenge

To achieve its aims, FAIRER Consulting worked with the client to design and roll out a programme of activity with the following objectives:

  1. To set out why valuing and embracing difference is imperative for everyone at the organisation. This will be linked to the organisation’s strategic objectives of creating ‘a game free from discrimination’ and ‘a diverse, high-performing workforce and inclusive culture’.
  2. To define the inclusive behaviours aligned to the client’s organisational value: ‘valuing difference’.
  3. To explore what gets in the way of colleagues embracing difference.
  4. To create personal action plans to leverage difference to create a truly inclusive workplace culture.

What we did

  • 01 Listening groups
  • 02 Stakeholder interviews
  • 03 Bespoke workshops and learning materials

Listening groups

We began by designing and facilitating a series of listening groups, enabling us to capture how employees’ perceptions of their working culture varied across the organisation.

Stakeholder interviews

Next, we undertook a series of one-to-one key stakeholder interviews. The goal of these interviews was to deepen our understanding of the environments within which diverse people operate, and help to identify opportunities to adapt existing behaviours and decision-making.

Bespoke workshops and learning materials

FAIRER Consulting created bespoke workshops and supplementary learning materials - all designed to be innovative and interactive.

The intention of these was to raise awareness of the skills, challenges and specific actions that colleagues at every level of the organisation can implement to make a tangible difference to the organisational culture.

This programme was set to roll out, in-person, to all of our client's employees and stakeholders across a five-month period.

The impact

  • Over 90% of the respondents would recommend the programme.
  • Over 90% of the respondents found the programme and materials engaging.
  • Over 85% of respondents found the content relevant.

Client testimonials

  • “It was engaging, the facilitators got us out of our seats and taking part in tasks. We were encouraged to contribute, but not pressured.”
  • “I thought both facilitators were very engaging and approachable. I enjoy the use of personal stories or experiences to inform the workshop. I thought the use of feedback from colleagues was very eye-opening and made people acknowledge an issue they may have thought did not exist.”
  • “It was useful sharing experiences but mostly seeing how impacted other members have been at the organisation.”
