Case study: Volkswagen

FAIRER Consulting partnered with Volkswagen to perform a recruitment audit and deliver a suite of DEI training programmes aimed at managers to enhance understanding, accessibility and acceptance at Volkswagen.

In this video, Aman Sidhu, DE&I partner at Volkswagen Group UK, describes the positive impact of FAIRER’s close relationship, responsive and bespoke approach, and understanding of the business.

The challenge

As part of the recruitment audit, FAIRER Consulting needed to understand what worked well – and identify areas of improvement – within Volkswagen’s recruitment process. This would involve taking a detailed view at existing policies and procedures and offering recommendations on how to improve inclusivity.

In addition, we were also asked to develop and deploy a series of bespoke training programmes on disability, neurodiversity and conscious inclusion

What we did

  • As part of our recruitment audit, FAIRER Consulting held a series of employee focus groups and took a deep dive into Volkswagen’s employee network groups. All audit findings were fed into a report, which was presented to senior leadership with key recommendations.

Aman explains, “We looked at what our priority areas were, some of the big concerns that were drawn out from that, and those are the ones that we've acted on.”

  • FAIRER Consulting also designed and deployed a three-hour workshop for managers, which covered neurodiversity, disability and conscious inclusion training.
  • Finally, we supported Volkswagen’s leadership conference, consisting of 250 managers, who each participated in a 60-minute inclusion session.

“The consultants that we work with have got a huge amount of experience”, says Aman. “When you're working with managers and making sure that message is getting fed down, we need to make sure it's pitched right,” she adds. “That's been really impactful in terms of FAIRER being able to get that message across.”

The impact

As a result of our partnership, Volkswagen was able to achieve:
  • A new careers website
  • More accessibility throughout the recruitment process
  • An adapted approach to inclusivity
  • A new applicant tracking system

“It’s been great”, says Aman. “I didn't feel like I was working with a huge corporate; I felt like I was working with an organisation that was really going to get into the detail of Volkswagen Group, where we were on our journey, and was going to tailor the approach. I felt like I was going to get something bespoke and not something off the shelf”, she adds.
